Mayombo ordered killing of Capt. Murara Makoko of CMI

Brigadier Noble Mayombo is reported to have ordered the cold blooded murder of Captain Murara Makoko, a renowned Mufumbira CMI Libyan-trained Commando and lawyer at his Busega home on Friday February 3, 2001, a week before the elections.

Makoko's murder was reported in the Monitor issue of February 5, 2001. Makoko was tipped to be the lawyer of the army High Command.

Makoko was killed because he was thought to be a Besigye, sympathizer since he was under his command at Mbarara Kadogo school in the late 1980's.

In addition, Makoko had knowledge about the role of State House and Mayombo in the death of Toro Prince Happy Kijanagoma.

On the eve of his murder, CMI operatives tracked him from Bombo in a white double cabin pickup with no number plates to his home in Busega.

They called him using a neighbourhood shop attendant and fired at least 15 bullets into his body and over three magazines, shuttering his house's windows and also tried to murder his wife and children, who only survived by hiding in the garage.

Some of these criminals were identified by neighbours. Two soldiers by the names of Jjingo and Mpanga attached to CMI and other civilians attached to CMI. False arrests and convictions were made in the High Court not the Court Martial, but later these guys were released on orders of CMI chief Mayombo.

All soldier friends of Makoko were denied a chance to attending his burial Nyakabingo, Kisoro. Reshuffles were made in all barracks and units where Makolo had influence and friends as meetings on his death were common talk in Bombo, Makindye and CMI headquarters.

Civilians buried a Commando, no burial expenses and benefits were paid to his family and Mayombo his great friend has never commented on his death.

A number of other army officers suspected of being sympathizers of Besigye were also murdered.
