Indian company allegedly involved in printing illegal ballots

Reports from the FDC party reaching Radio Katwe say that an Indian-owned company in Kampala is involved alongside the government in printing extra and illegal ballot papers.

The Indian, Chandrakant Gadhia, is reported to be the person behind the scam. The fraud is done by duplicating the ballot papers at the Electoral Commission offices in Kampala.

"A number of them already ticked were picked last week to a destination not yet known," the FDC's Anne Mugisha wrote in her e-mail memo on February 20.

"And through a mole of mine in their printing section, more prints are to be done tonight [February 20]", she added.

Last week, a private security firm, Group Security, is reported to have picked up the pre-ticked ballots and taken them to an undisclosed place.

The FDC charge comes within hours of Radio Katwe reporting that ballot papers have been taken to Tororo town by General Salim Saleh and his aides.
